Francis Shennan, LL.B, is one of Scotland's leading freelance financial journalists and winner of four Press awards. A former Scottish Business Editor at the Sunday Times and sub-editor at the Daily Record and Mirror, he now contributes regularly to The Herald, Scotland on Sunday and CA magazine, as well as The Times Law section and The Guardian. He graduated in law from Edinburgh University, has been the National Council of Training for Journalists (NCTJ) Law Examiner for Scotland, and lectured on Media Law at Napier, Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian Universities, on Law for Journalists at Edinburgh’s Telford College and Cardonald College in Glasgow, on Law for the Communications Industries at Telford College and Glasgow Metropolitan College, and on Preparing for Work as a Freelance Journalist at Telford. His one-day law courses have been delivered for the National Union of Journalists, Associated Newspapers, Johnston Newspaper Group and the Shetland Times Group. He also gave evidence to the Scottish Parliament’s Justice 1 Committee on the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Bill. He has devised and conducted media training courses for blue-chip companies including Bank of Scotland, Scottish Widows, KPMG, corporate law firms and IT consultancies, has been guest speaker at business schools and universities, and co-chaired the National Employment Conference at Gleneagles.
