This unique course was developed by the NUJ Scottish office in response to an identified need for an online interactive tool to provide grammar and literacy skills for journalists starting out in the industry.

Through the various development phases we were aware that the course was capturing the imagination of more experienced journalists. It became obvious as we continued to make progress that our project would also bring much greater benefit to a wider field of people across all industries.

A particularly gratifying element is the widespread interest from schools, colleges and universities and with this height of attraction to the education system our hope is to have a positive impact on the teaching of written English from the cradle to the grave.

After an increasing amount of enquiries from other unions and partners to develop the course for specific industries, we successfully secured further funding to take our project onto a higher technical and accessibility level.

English for Journalists is challenging and interesting. It will be not only a great teaching tool but also hopefully a springboard to setting higher standards and increased understanding of our written language.
